2 Kings 4:38-44

And Elisha returned to Gilgal, and there was a famine in the land. Now the sons of the prophets were sitting before him; and he said to his servant, "Put on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets."
So one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered from it a lapful of wild gourds, and came and sliced them into the pot of stew, though they did not know what they were.
Then they served it to the men to eat. Now it happened, as they were eating the stew, that they cried out and said, "Man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it.
So he said, "Then bring some flour." And he put it into the pot, and said, "Serve it to the people, that they may eat." And there was nothing harmful in the pot.
Then a man came from Baal Shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley bread, and newly ripened grain in his knapsack. And he said, "Give it to the people, that they may eat."
But his servant said, "What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?" He said again, "Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the LORD: 'They shall eat and have some left over.' "
So he set it before them; and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the LORD.

A man called Elisha was a prophet who served Elijah, another prophet that was whisked away from him by the Lord's chariot. Before Elijah left, he asked his master and teacher for a double portion of his anointing, God granted him this request. So from this time forth, Elisha was able to perform miracles.

Elisha took over the duties of Elijah of head teacher at the school of prophets. He was a teacher of the law providing spiritual food as well as natural food. There was a famine in the land for 7 years with little water. It was a godly punishment for the great sin in the land by the people who did pagan worship or the combination of pagan worship with the worship of the Father.

As this story goes, a servant picked a noxious herb that was a wild gourd called coloquintida. It is strongly cathartic, and if it is not qualified, highly dangerous. Originally all fruits of the earth were for edification, but because of sin thorns and thistles shall it bring forth unto thee, meaning a curse for disobedience.

Soon the guests tasted the stew and they complained that it was bitter and dangerous. Elisha immediately cured the bad taste and prevented the bad consequences of this unwholesome stew. As in the past, Elisha healed a bitter water with salt, now he healed the meal with a common hand, only to thicken the stew with the bread of life [flour].

This account is a picture of leadership and novice leadership. The servant, a leader in training in the school of the prophets represents the servant of God who may not have all the knowledge of the word of God in his heart. He still needs to be taught the experiences of the word. Elisha is the seasoned man of God, knowledgeable believer who worked many signs and wonders.

Although the servant, leader in training was not intending to hurt anyone, he would have had it not been discovered that he erred in the mixing of the stew. There are pastors, teachers of the word that oversee a flock of people. They teach what they know, but are not fully developed in the things of God and seek to continue to ignore the full gospel teachings. They do it not because they are intentionally trying to injure someone, but because they are not knowledgeable or paying attention to detail of the engrafted word.

The table often becomes a snare, and that which should be for our welfare proves a trap, which is a good reason why we should not feed ourselves without fear; when we are receiving the engrafted word of God.

However, God will provide a teacher greater than the overseer that will add to the teaching, thickening the engrafted word with healing. There may be elements missing from their lectures; however, God will provide the right teacher to add to the stew with more understanding, experience, and knowledge thereby healing the stew [the served spiritual food] and keeping it from bitter error. ~Minister Falcon
